Description / History

Maria (walking the vineyard in the photo) is the owner of this historical site. Winemaking of this estate dates back more than 400 years. Only the finest grapes from the Estate owned vineyards are used to create quality Rioja wines. Over 25 hectares are planted with Tempranillo.

The estate grown grapes are harvested from vines which are carefully cared for and periodically pruned. Juices are fermented in in concrete tanks, then aged in barrels. Manuel Ruiz Hernandez is the oenologist working along side Antionio Diez-Caballero. The most important part of quality wine is the honestly. Allowing the grape and terroir to be fully reflected in the wines we consume.

The dligent work in the vineyard is indeed paying paying off. Diez-Caballero is a rising star in the region, getting great feedback from the likes of Jancis Robinson, Guia Peñin and James Suckling.

Luis Gutierrez from The Wine Advocate states that Diez-Caballero offers classical Riojas at affordable prices. It is a name that flies under the radar and deservers more recognition. Time to explore.
