Pfneiszl Estate

Description / History

Pfneiszl Estate is a family-run winery in the region of Sopron. Today the sisters Katrin and Birgit are runnin the estate taking over from the parents in 2006. They have 13 hectares of vineyard to their name, that since 2006 have been cultivated organically. The wines are certified organic ever since after signing an assurance contract with Biokontroll Hungary.

Each of the premium vintages coming out of the estate are personalized. A specific story of that vintage lies name to the wine; like in 2015 when small kangaroos were jumping around the estate in Sopron.

Birgit is a bit of a traveler and is a trained oenologist and viticulturist. From 16 years of age she traveled the world working at wineries in Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Napa Valley and California. Upon her return she became one of the first winemakers in Hungary introducing organic viticulture.

Katrin has quite a different background from her sister. From studying economics in Vienna, to become a winemaker in Sopron and finally a mother of 2, Katrin has different views on the business. Fun fact, she did not have her first sip of wine till the age of 18 – now Katrin enjoys the creativity that comes with winemaking.
