Quinta de Santa Eugénia

Description / History
Although the winery was founded in 1996 the vineyards have been in the family for 3 generations. Quinta de Santa Eugénia owns 16 hectares of vineyards across the 3 sub-regions of Douro.
The vines are planted on a diversity of different soils, allowing the winery to plant different types of grapes. This allows for a wider range of wines which includes Port, Still wines, Sparkling wines and Moscatel. The terroir on the terraces transition from schist to granite. Summers get hot so grape varieties that are harder to ripen thrive here.
The 3 sub-region in Douro where the vineyards are located are Cima Corgo, Baixo Corgo and Douro Superior. Each different from the other, allowing winemaker Rui Varela to get the best of each sub-region. The main vineyards are the following:
Quinta de Santo António is located at 430m in altitude. Soils are rich in schist and much sun exposure. Grapes used to produce Chão da Portela are grown here, which includes Tourga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca. Wines are very aromatic, complex and intense.
Quinta do Soutelinho is located at 490m in altitude. Here we see the transition in terroir and along with the excellent sun exposure this vineyard produces great white and sparkling wines. Grapes grown here includes Rabigato, Gouveivo and Moscatel
Quinta dos Pinhais is located at 420m in altitude. Another vineyard with a transition of terroir with great sun exposure. Grapes grown here includes Viosinho, Charoddnay and Códega do Larinho. The grapes are used for white and sparking wines which are very aromatic.
