Description / History

The Pannonhalma Abbey Winery is one of the most unique wineries you will ever encounter. The first papers where issued to the Benedictine monastary more than 1000 years ago. Since then, the monks have been closely connected to the soil, vines, environment and the wine.
The monks established the first school in Hungary and wrote the first document in Hungarian in 1055.
Back in the Middle Ages the monks build their monastary and church. It was also at this time they picked up the viticulture the Romans had left behind.

Pannonhalma is the smallest wine region in Hungary. The cold winters and hot summers creates perfect conditions for fragrant white wines. The wines are mainly based on Olaszrizling, Rheinrizling and Sauvignon Blanc. Other than the white wines the abbey also produces a great Pinot Noir and a few Bordeaux blends.
